Colton K-9 Bodyguard by Lara Lacombe

The hunt continues for whoever is killing grooms in the third book of the Coltons of Red Ridge continuity series, while a couple get the chance to discover if they can have another opportunity at a relationship. Lara Lacombe has created intriguing developments linked to the mysterious killings in a community, where several Coltons are trying to solve the crimes while one is even a suspect. The author adds many new details to what has been revealed so far, and the list of unknowns just keeps mounting along with some resolutions. COLTON K-9 BODYGUARD is an enthralling story of unexpected suspense and touching romance. I have become very caught up in the events happening in Red Ridge, and the many characters that have been introduced have also grabbed my interest.

With most engaged couples in Red Ridge fearful of a person called the Groom Killer, only a few weddings have been occurring lately. This has resulted in the bridal shop owned by Beatrix Colton not doing much business, and it will not until the individual responsible for murdering two men the day before they wed is caught. One night as Bea is closing the store, she hears a noise and is soon attacked.

Luckily for her, two local cops are checking out the area after receiving information about an unrelated crime. Micah Shaw and his K-9 partner, Chunk, find Bea, and he questions her after she gets needed help at the hospital. She and the former Army Ranger have history, but their relationship ended badly. With more murders taking place, Micah worries that Bea may be in danger, so he ends up watching over the woman whom he has never completely forgotten.

Just when there seems to be a promising lead in the Groom Killer case, the actual facts do not always make Micah happy. He wants the killings to stop, and his frustration is intensifying. This tension along with being forced to be around Bea is making the cop feel uneasy at times, but he still pushes forward with his investigation. I really liked Micah with his no-nonsense attitude, plus he was very loyal to those for whom he cared. The way in which he reacted with Bea, even when they had differences was admirable, and I so hoped these two would finally speak about the past. Lara Lacombe cleverly builds the anticipation of how their relationship will proceed, and my anxiety over their possible responses kept building. Bea is portrayed as a woman determined to take charge of her life, and I enjoyed seeing her make a point.

Several surprises occur in COLTON K-9 BODYGUARD, and I was certainly shocked at one unforeseen incident. While more answers are hopefully forthcoming, I did learn some key truths. Another aspect of the story that is highly interesting is Chunk and his many contributions to the police force. I was really entertained by his antics and lovable personality. The author definitely kept me engrossed, and the next book is set up perfectly.

Hot Mess by J.H. Croix

The Into the Fire series is about courageous firefighters and the person who comes to love them. In the fourth book, both individuals put their lives on the line and help wherever needed as being a hotshot firefighter is their career choice. Both Savannah Gilmore and Ward Taylor have dedicated their lives to giving assistance, but when it comes to facing a personal situation neither anticipated, they often do not know how to respond. I thoroughly enjoyed all the varied circumstances that occur to this couple when she becomes pregnant, and each moment was very true-to-life. J.H. Croix has written an emotional story of unexpected experiences filled with sincerely honest reactions, and HOT MESS is repeatedly steamy with fiery sexual encounters.

When Ward Taylor arrives in Willow Brook, Alaska to become the superintendent of a local hotshot firefighting crew, he quickly realizes fighting his attraction to one team member is going to be extremely difficult. He and Savannah Gilmore had one night together when they both completed their hotshot training, and the passion they shared has never been forgotten. Savannah also vividly remembers what they did during those hours that night. So they decide giving in once more before he officially becomes her boss may not be smart, but perhaps it will help to cool the heat they feel when near one another. While the night was once again memorable, it also left Savannah pregnant. Though certainly not planned, their futures are now very much connected.

HOT MESS is constantly captivating because of all the heartfelt emotions expressed by Savannah and Ward time and again. J.H. Croix expertly depicts their actual sentiments with much intensity, and I could easily sense just how deeply they were affected, whether it involved sex or only feelings. This couple has to made several very important decisions throughout the story, and how they came to their conclusions was often helped along by some beloved past characters. I was entertained by many of the conversations in HOT MESS, as wisdom is dispensed along with candid thoughts. Ward and Savannah are very likable, and they both had to go through some troubling uncertainties before happiness could ever be theirs. The one area where they had no problems is having gratifying sex, and scenes in which they reached much fulfillment are definitely scorching. I am really hoping there will be lots more future books focused on these hotshot firefighters.

The Lost Dragon by Debbie Herbert

The Bad Alpha Dads series is about men who are not only fathers but also shifters, and in this compelling novella, a dragon shifter may find love although he is certainly not looking for it. I always enjoy a story where a couple lost out on being in a relationship years ago and are now given another chance, as I like seeing what choices they make the second time around. Debbie Herbert has a knack for making her stories particularly realistic, and THE LOST DRAGON is emotionally rewarding with spirited characters.

In order to not feel the loneliness after losing his mate, Drake Evers devoted his time to becoming extremely rich. The dragon shifter lives on a guarded estate on Blood Mountain, and the isolated location will hopefully keep anyone from discovering his supernatural abilities. Although Drake did not know about the existence of his twin teenage daughters until recently, they now live with him and will benefit from what he accumulates. When it becomes apparent that one twin has run away, making money is forgotten as all his focus is on getting her safely back. It does not take the distraught father long to realize the only person who can help is a witch from his past.

With its Appalachian Mountain locale and depiction of believable characters, THE LOST DRAGON is an enthralling paranormal romance. The twisty roads had me experiencing the area in its reality, and any individual featured came across as honestly genuine, regardless of their origin. Every mystical aspect is convincing, and I could easily envision Drake turning into a magnificent dragon. Tansy is a capable witch, and how she conducted her spells was fascinating. I waited anxiously to see if this couple would come to realize some important truths as the story progressed. There are several scenes where a situation turns very threatening, and outcomes are definitely not guaranteed. Debbie Herbert contributes an enchanting installment to the Bad Alpha Dads series.

The Sins of Lord Lockwood by Meredith Duran

Each story in the Rules for the Reckless series has been captivating, and the sixth book is definitely one of the most intriguing plus emotional. Schemes are carried out with cunning deception, while individuals must face unconceivable situations. The many unexpected happenings in the lives of Liam Devaliant and Anna Wallace immediately grabbed my attention, and I became totally caught up in how things would work out for this exceedingly likable couple. Meredith Duran has a way of making the main characters in her books not only realistic but also endearing, and I so wanted this very special pair to find the happiness that they deserved. As I took the journey with Liam and Anna through countless ups and downs, I was treated to a story filled with great heartache yet also hopeful optimism. THE SINS OF LORD LOCKWOOD has diverse characters, poignant circumstances, and countless heartfelt emotions.

When Liam Devaliant, the fifth Earl of Lockwood, married Anna Wallace, he had assumed his troubles in life were over. Yet, it soon became apparent that nothing was working out as he had hoped, because an enemy has turned his existence into one of despair. But thoughts of getting vengeance for the wrong done him helps to keep Liam alive, and though it took nearly four years, he now has plans to seek out his retaliation.

Upon learning the news of how her long-missing husband is residing in London now, Anna travels from Scotland to discover his reason for vanishing right after they were wed. When they first meet, he tries to appear unmoved by being near her, but it is most difficult even when she presses him for answers. Liam is keeping many secrets, but since Anna likes solving mysteries, she is determined to unravel what her husband is hiding.

Rarely does a book affect me as much as THE SINS OF LORD LOCKWOOD did on numerous occasions, and the superb writing of Meredith Duran is the reason. Past occurrences are revealed throughout the story to give insight into how these incidents influence the current lives of Anna and Liam, and each new disclosure greatly impacted my own feelings again and again. I never knew what detail would be divulged, but I was certain that any responses would be genuine. I felt the mental suffering of Liam and Anna at times, while their joyous moments left me smiling. Neither of them liked to back down when they want their way, and this led to several heated discussions. There is also plenty of passion between them, and it fueled their actions during any intimate encounters. Meredith Duran has a knack for making her characters come across as so true-to-life, thus making it extremely easy to believe every scene as portrayed.

There are quite a few secondary characters that added much enjoyment to the story. From the men who knew Liam in the past to a good friend and his wife to Anna’s delightful cousin, they all played significant parts in the storyline. Some historical facts were interwoven with the fictional events, making scenes seem even more likely to have happened. I am looking forward to upcoming books from the very imaginative Meredith Duran.

Bold in Honor by Alexa Aston

Actual historical events are cleverly incorporated into the fictional situations in BOLD IN HONOR, and each set of circumstances had me believing all developments took place as portrayed. I always enjoy a book where the past comes alive through creative writing, and Alexa Aston manages to make her latest story in the Knights of Honor series constantly fascinating. From peasants revolting to the daily life of someone living in this period of time to political troubles, BOLD IN HONOR is highly entertaining and made me think about everything a person faced many years ago. With such a compelling romance added into the mix, I was particularly happy because a medieval love story is a favorite theme of mine and Alexa Aston does not disappoint.

There is much unrest in England in the year 1381, and one of the knights following the orders of King Richard is Sir Ancel de Montfort. He has been given several exceedingly important tasks to complete, and the uprisings taking place around London plus the demands of the peasants make carrying out his responsibilities very dangerous. Another person entangled in the turmoil is Lady Margery Ormond, whose home, Highfield, is attacked by those who despise anyone who belongs to the nobility.

When Margery becomes caught up in a skirmish between those fighting for the king and the serfs, it is Ancel who manages to keep her from being killed. With no one around to oversee Highfield, the king suggests that his trusted knight might become its new baron and a marriage can even be a part of the bargain. Just when the futures of Ancel and Margery start to look bright, one unanticipated event could take away their happiness.

Since I have read the previous books in the Knights of Honor series, I have watched Ancel grow from a lively young boy to a well-respected knight. He definitely possesses all the qualities that would make a man admirable, and I thought how lucky Margery was to have had been saved by him, as it let them become acquainted. Though she lived an unhappy life for many years, it did not break her spirit. I cheered her on when she needed to be strong, and felt her pain when a situation was distressing. Alexa Aston has a way of depicting her characters which lets me know exactly how these individuals feel at a certain moment, and I was deeply affected as the relationship of Ancel and Margery went through numerous stages plus lots of heartfelt emotions.

The discontent of some people who did much of the physical labor during this time in history and the resulting conflict it caused is shown with realistic incidents. Inner thoughts and motivations of those involved in any encounter are clearly revealed, thus letting me get a sense for what fueled a person’s actions. Several of the scenes where the king is featured were especially enjoyable because his personality was so animated, while interesting secondary characters made an occasion more intriguing. I am looking forward to more releases in this captivating series.

Redeeming the Rebel Doc by Susan Carlisle

Often, an incident that happens to a person will deeply affect them for years afterward, and it sadly occurred to the main people in this romance with a compelling medical theme. Dr. Rex Maxwell endured an event when he was a teenager, and it altered how he wants to be perceived by others. A troubling family accident changed the life of Tiffani Romano, and having to interact with a doctor will recall bad memories. But to have better careers, these two individuals feel they must suppress any inner feelings for their own good. When a variety of circumstances gives Rex and Tiffani insight into what motivates the other, REDEEMING THE REBEL DOC becomes emotionally rewarding because of realistic developments. Susan Carlisle never disappoints when it comes to creating a captivating romantic story. I was totally immersed from the very beginning in the many situations that Rex and Tiffani had to face, and I became even more engrossed with each new episode.

Although countless surgeries had been successfully performed by Dr. Rex Maxwell, a family sued him for supposedly not doing everything he could to save a patient. While the lawsuit has been resolved, the hospital wants how they plus him are viewed by the community to be more positive, so a woman specializing in public relations is being brought in. Rex will have to be involved in the campaign since he is the reason for the negative opinions, and even though he would much rather concentrate on being a surgeon, he must comply.

By constantly hearing about her father’s previous experience with a doctor, Tiffani Romano has a preconceived notion about the man who needs her help. She just hopes the surgeon will follow all of her plans without too much arguing, as it will aid in her achieving several goals. While the ideas that Tiffani comes up with are not to Rex’s liking, it appears there is no way to avoid working closely with the determined woman.

There is so much to enjoy in REDEEMING THE REBEL DOC. Rex and Tiffani are a very animated couple. Their conversations are filled with clever comebacks, and both often seem to come out the winner. Numerous thoughts of these two were disclosed throughout the story which let me know what caused many of their reactions. A few of their responses were surprising, and I liked how they were always honest. Seemingly complete opposites when they first met, I was overjoyed if an event resulted in them looking more compatible, as it made me optimistic.

Susan Carlisle once again perfectly blends personal issues that challenge a relationship with convincing dilemmas to produce a constantly fascinating story. Anything that had to do with a medical problem is believably depicted, and I was definitely anxious during some of the more traumatic situations. Rex is a capable doctor, yet he lets the past rule part of his life, and Tiffani also has a history which influences her thinking. Questions need to be asked, and their futures could be directed by the answers.

Forever a Father by Lynne Marshall

The Delaneys of Sandpiper Beach miniseries begins with a story about two people who felt betrayed in their previous relationships. Now Dr. Daniel Delaney and Keela O’Mara are very wary of becoming involved with anyone else, and this has them holding back when they come in contact, though there are so many aspects that draw them closer whenever they are together. As the lives of Daniel and Keela keep interconnecting on a professional level, they wonder if seeing each other outside of work is worth the risk. Lynne Marshall manages to pull me into every scene in FOREVER A FATHER, where characters are always genuine and any emotions are heartfelt.

After his life plans changed because of an unforeseen event, Dr. Daniel Delaney decided to return to his hometown and open a clinic for physical medicine. He is glad when new patients come to his practice located in the coastal town of Sandpiper Beach, California, and the physical therapist whom he hired is very capable. Keela O’Mara even puts up with his frequently cranky behavior, which Daniel knows is not deserved yet she never complains.

There are moments when painful memories haunt him, so the doctor tries to keep his focus on business and stay busy. One afternoon, the young daughter of Keela ends up spending some time with Daniel at work, and though he is not thrilled about the interruption in his plans, the lively four-year-old is easy to entertain. Now if he could just stop thinking about the girl’s mother whenever their paths cross, his days would be greatly improved.

Often, an individual has a difficult time moving on after being deeply affected by an agonizing incident. While Keela may not be ready to let a man back into her life just yet, she does get much pleasure from raising her daughter, Anna, and also now has steady work. Daniel is excited with how his new clinic is growing, but bad past recollections keep him from ever feeling truly happy. As facts are gradually disclosed about what occurred to these two before they met, I came to understand what caused many of their reactions to certain situations. What Daniel and Keela have experienced is very true-to-life, and Lynne Marshall takes them on a soul-searching journey filled with unexpected revelations.

I laughed when circumstances were lighthearted, and several moments when Anna is featured were especially cheerful. The conduct of this little girl had me smiling often, as the author made her charmingly convincing. There were also some serious events in the story, and I was touched by the sincerity portrayed by Daniel and Keela during any somber times. FOREVER A FATHER is exceedingly realistic, as every detail is believable. I quickly became caught up this couple’s quest to find lasting joy, and I thought their numerous emotional entanglements could actually happen to someone. There is another book about Daniel’s intriguing brother coming out next, and it sounds particularly interesting.

Appalachian Abduction by Debbie Herbert

The second story conceived by Debbie Herbert for her series of books taking place in northern Georgia is absolutely outstanding. Danger happens in the opening scene, and the peril keeps escalating all the way through until the stunning conclusion. Add in all the realistically portrayed characters, and I was hooked on every carefully invented aspect. APPALACHIAN ABDUCTION really is a novel that cannot be put down once started, as there is never a spot where a development is not riveting plus noteworthy.

When Charlotte Helms came to a gated community located on Blood Mountain in Georgia, she hoped to find evidence related to the disappearance of a girl. Though the Atlanta undercover detective has been forbidden to work on the case, her friendship with the mother of the teenager makes the case personal, and she plans on using some of her skills to find any solid proof. But when she and a local deputy sheriff named James Tedder encounter one another, he could ruin her carefully thought-out scheme to safely retrieve the girl.

Although the woman who had broken into the cabin belonging to James did not want to be caught, he was equally determined to track Charlotte down and get answers. Upon learning about the missing girl who might possibly be a human-trafficking victim, he wants to discover if someone in the area is a participant in this terrible crime. As James and Charlotte are given the chance to look for any confirmation about the illegal activity, they have a very hard time keeping their feelings from becoming involved in the case and especially each other.

There is so much to love about APPALACHIAN ABDUCTION, as details are precise and come across as accurate. No matter where a situation occurs, I got a clear picture of the area. The threats to anyone are very real, and those endangering either James or Charlotte could often be deadly. I was frequently worried about what was going to happen to these two, as both were not people who backed down and always gave their all. I definitely admired Charlotte and James as they tried to make sure anyone innocent was rescued, while the guilty party was brought to justice. Human-trafficking is one of the worst things a criminal can take part in, and I was anxious to see how all events would play out. A big shocker awaits them as they seek out answers, and the author made the surprise convincing.

I thought James and Charlotte are extremely likable individuals. He had spent time as a soldier before coming home and taking a position with the local police department, and his time in the Middle East still affects him without warning. These moments were poignantly depicted and certainly believable. Charlotte has dedicated herself to helping others, and her persistence to help a teenager had me seeing her as someone who puts others before her own wishes. The relationship of the couple always seems genuine, as their discussions are candid and feelings are expressed with sincerity. Several characters from the prior book make appearances, and though that story does not have to be read first, it should not be missed. I am so looking forward to seeing what Debbie Herbert imagines next.

Approaching the Bench by Chantal Fernando

APPROACHING THE BENCH is an entertaining addition to the Conflict of Interest series, as a spirited couple have lively conversations and experience a multitude of emotions. The story is filled with lots of delightful disagreements amongst the main characters, and I could not keep from laughing on a number of occasions. Chantal Fernando interweaves the daily routines of getting ready for cases with life outside the courtroom, and the result is constantly engaging situations.

Upon being appointed to preside over state court cases, Trinity Williams wanted to prove she was capable even though still rather young. After five years have passed, she thinks her point has been made, but she always tries to come across as strict to make certain no one questions her competency. When a new clerk comes to work with her, Trinity wonders if she and Callum Hopkins will actually get along well because his attitude is so dissimilar from her own.

To be a lawyer one day is the goal of Callum, and working for the respected judge will help him to gain knowledge and hopefully receive a favorable reference later. Though he tries to be considerate when around Trinity, she does not plan on letting them get too friendly. Yet when a threat toward the judge and clerk leads to them being put in protective custody, the line between staying professional and exploring personal desires grows very thin.

Since I met Callum in the previous books of the series, I knew he was an interesting man and would made a wonderful main character. I was definitely eager to read his book, and I learned much about his private life. His sunny disposition is infectious, and I loved how he would always look for the positive side of whatever was happening, though his background could have made him a bitter person. His interactions with others is often comical, as Callum is never at a loss for words because of his sharp wit. For someone who could have remained a secondary character, he shines in his own story.

When Callum goes to work for Trinity, her reputation does not cause him to act any differently around her than he normally would behave, and this triggered many attention-grabbing scenes. Although she plans to not let herself be affected by his charm, resisting becoming harder and harder. I so enjoyed seeing the always serious Trinity turn into someone who is more lighthearted, and her reactions were not what I expected at times. After unexpected danger threatens them both, their lives really become entangled. Chantal Fernando made the suspense believable, and I was nervous whenever outcomes looked uncertain. There are even a few surprises in the story to make a particular scene more enthralling. APPROACHING THE BENCH has an appealing couple who express genuine feelings, and plenty of humor to amuse.
