Desert Wolf by Linda Thomas-Sundstrom

A highly unusual storyline makes DESERT WOLF constantly fascinating. The unique werewolves created by Linda Thomas-Sundstrom are present, and their distinctive traits once again make them atypical from those usually read. But it is the numerous secrets and mysteries to be solved that really make the story exceptional. I was repeatedly intrigued with the many unanticipated incidents which occur, and when answers were finally given, I was often totally stunned. From start to finish, the story kept me captivated because of all the unknowns plus interesting characters.

After inheriting some land in Arizona from her father, Paxton Hall returns to the place where she lived as a child in the hope of quickly selling it and then returning to Maryland. However, there is one big problem keeping this objective from being simple. It seems there is an abandoned old western town which was once open to the public sitting in the middle of the property she now owns, and it belongs to Grant Wade. So Paxton has come to the hot desert in the hope of getting this stranger’s cooperation.

Her preconceived notions about Grant are far from correct, as it turns out he was once a Texas Ranger and is about her age. When Paxton tries to negotiate with him, he makes it clear there will be no deals made. What she does not know is the man opposing her is a werewolf, and the ghost town of Desperado is where the Lycan Alpha has concealed his pack. A multitude of secrets are being kept by Grant, and deciding what to actually tell Paxton is a huge gamble.

When a human and werewolf meet, there are often some problems to overcome. But the dilemmas Grant and Paxton must face are definitely much bigger than just worrying about different species. While he is aware of much more that is going on in Desperado than her, as she is in the dark at first, there are still some uncertainties for him to also discover. As truths become known, their choices about each new development could be disastrous if not chosen wisely. The confusion Grant and Paxton feel at times left me also speculating about the many possible explanations for what was taking place. Some subtle clues are scattered throughout the story, and I never knew if my deductions were right until every detail was exposed. The superb writing talent of Linda Thomas-Sundstrom certainly shines in DESERT WOLF, a very original paranormal novel.

What could have been an uncomplicated transaction is anything but that for Paxton, and the emotional issues in her life after arriving back home are heartbreaking. I cannot imagine having so many things to decide at once, and the author does not make her path to being happy easy. She has always been spirited, and every bit of her spunk is going to be needed to survive the nonstop predicaments. Grant is a wonderful hero, as he is protective plus compassionate and devoted. As the Alpha, he has countless responsibilities, and I liked how swiftly he moved Paxton up the list. These two go through so many emotional moments, and I enjoyed seeing how they would react to the situation and each other.

Accidental Sire by Molly Harper

If your spirits need boosting, the Half-Moon Hollow series has just the right story to improve your mood. From the very first release, these amusing paranormal stories have caused uncontrollable laughter, and the latest book is once again hilariously entertaining. There are comical incidents along with plenty of snarky retorts, and I could always picture the event happening because of the author’s descriptive writing. Molly Harper never disappoints when it comes to delivering original characters who find themselves in unique situations, and ACCIDENTAL SIRE causes numerous laugh filled moments.

After Meagan Keene meets a nice young man at a college party, she is thrilled when Ben Overby invites her to go on a date with him. Sadly, her happiness is short lived because she is hit with a heavy frisbee being tossed by some other students who are vampires. When it becomes apparent there is no hope she will recover from her injuries, a random vampire volunteers to turn her so she might continue to exist.

Upon waking up, Meagan realizes she is now one of the undead, and her first visitor is Ben checking to make certain she is doing all right. But there seems to be several irregularities when it comes to her new condition, so she is going to be carefully monitored by a vampire belonging to the World Council for the Equal Treatment of the Undead until she is thought to be safe. It certainly appears that Meagan’s potential romance with Ben is over before it even starts.

A visit to Half-Moon Hollow, Kentucky is always a special treat, as many of its residents are one of a kind. Jane and her hunky husband Gabriel are featured all throughout this story, and they made scenes extra enjoyable with their personal brand of humor. The high-spirited Ophelia does her usual thing, while the adorable looking yet actually sort of creepy Georgie shows off. And I certainly cannot forget Dick and his assortment of cleverly phrased t-shirts. If you have ever read this series, it is great catching up with favorite characters, and a first-time meeting of them will make you want to go back and discover what was missed.

What happens to Meagan and Ben is unplanned, and it leads to all kinds of hilarious mishaps and a number of unexpected repercussions. Molly Harper has many situations taking place that are very laughable as a new vampire does not always react as anticipated, especially when several traits are far from normal for their kind. However, there are also some suspenseful instances where outcomes could have serious consequences. The author has come up with a few distinct features for Ben and Meagan, and I found delight in each new aspect. The world Molly Harper has created for her paranormal beings in ACCIDENTAL SIRE is very ground-breaking since circumstances are like no other series. As Meagan comes to terms with living as one of the undead, she and Ben must also work through quite a lot of problems. Young love can be difficult for anyone, but their added supernatural troubles makes forming a relationship doubly hard. I am just glad to have had the opportunity to go on this imaginative journey with two likable individuals and all their diverse friends.

Royal Enchantment by Sharon Ashwood

The Camelot Reborn miniseries is truly intriguing because of how the distinctive characters known from legend are brought to life in order to keep the human population safe. The group of knights known for their fighting skills plus bravery will put their lives on the line for anyone, but in this story, someone very dear to King Arthur might perhaps be in need of his expertise. When Guinevere comes back into his life, they both must confront the emotional issues which affected their relationship in the past, as these troubling matters could keep them from moving forward in the present. I became totally caught up in the many happenings this couple had to face, from problems caused by the fae to those linked in how they perceived the other. ROYAL ENCHANTMENT is noteworthy because Sharon Ashwood has made every moment believable.

A long time ago when King Arthur aligned himself and his knights with the fae to keep humans from harm, one upcoming battle was disastrous to any being who was a Faery and they vowed revenge. Merlin then enchanted those who sat around the Round Table so they would sleep until they were once again needed to protect mortals. The time has come for Arthur and his loyal knights to battle the fae, and they are disguised as employees at a medieval theme park in present day Washington state. As the courageous king prepares to fight, he thinks back to when Guinevere was by his side.

What Arthur did not know is that Merlin also put his queen under the same spell, and now she has been awoken. But Gwen is no longer satisfied to keep a low profile and not speak her thoughts, because before she was always left in the dark when any plans were made. As the peril escalates for anyone living in the modern world, Arthur and Guinevere find their relationship having its own personal difficulties.

Arthur and his knights have had to adapt themselves to a world unlike the one they left, and it is always fun to see these men using phones and riding in cars instead of traveling on a horse. Sharon Ashwood has reasonable explanations for every situation that arises, and often the crafty Merlin is at the center of any solution. I was frequently in awe of how the author made so many factors connected to the past seem as though they could take place in our current world, and I especially enjoyed seeing what occurred when a dragon or some other mythical creature appeared. Exceedingly colorful descriptions make ROYAL ENCHANTMENT constantly fascinating, and each new adventure keeps the interest high.

Since Gwen is willing to clash with Arthur over her lack of independence, he quickly discovers his wife is not as meek as when they first married. What he sees as being protective has her feeling stifled, and I really had a great time watching them try to find a way to actually be happy together. Balancing his duties as king with those responsibilities a wife expects of her husband was not at all easy for Arthur, and though there is much passion between them, trust will also play a big part in what ultimately happens. I have always thought the myth about King Arthur and Guinevere was very interesting, and Sharon Ashwood gives an imaginative perspective on this fable.

Urban Wolf by Linda Thomas-Sundstrom and Jillian Stone

URBAN WOLF captures the imagination with innovative creativity and engaging characters. Linda Thomas-Sundstrom and Jillian Stone always manage to write stories that grab your full attention, and their compelling novellas are definitely entertaining. Taking place in Los Angeles and London, two men who appear as regular humans are in actuality hiding their Were side to keep people from knowing the truth. When they find themselves in situations where a woman plays a huge part and could affect the outcome, the lives of each couple becomes entangled because of unanticipated developments. As threats continue to mount, so does their desire for one another. I was totally caught up in the numerous surprising incidents that arise, as these episodes make for constant fascination.

“Wolf in the City” by Linda Thomas-Sundstrom

Since the ill-fated night that forever changed Jared James, his evenings are often spent patrolling the streets of Los Angeles where inconceivable events in fact happen. After becoming a werewolf, he now wants justice against the being which turned him into something most humans do not think exists. One night, another creature is prowling the area, and Jared learns vampires are also very real. Discovering someone else who is no longer an ordinary mortal causes him much excitement, but he wonders if the female vampire named Kit will keep him from seeking the one that created him.

When it comes to werewolves, Linda Thomas-Sundstrom can always masterfully write an original story for these intriguing creatures, and this novella showcases her creative mind. “Wolf in the City” is filled with unique circumstances and two distinctive characters, where emotions run high and danger escalates. Jared and Kit may be from different paranormal species, but their craving for normalcy draws them together, resulting in lots of earnest conversations and growing desire. What a wonderful couple they make because of the author’s inventiveness, and I really hope there are more stories set in the same location. I can never get enough of Linda Thomas-Sundstrom’s tempting werewolf heroes!

“Wolf, Interrupted” by Jillian Stone

After someone is killed during a vicious attack in London’s underground train station, Abelseth Durant is the homicide detective sent to speak with an eyewitness named Elle Hathaway. He immediately recognizes her wolfen nature, as he has the same background. Though once part of a pack, he is now a lone wolf yet cannot keep from being attracted to the enticing female. When Elle is unexpectedly snatched by a wolf pack with a very bad reputation, Abelseth will use whatever measures he must to get her back.

A most colorful world has been constructed for the werewolves that Jillian Stone has envisioned living in London. They are dissimilar from any werewolves I have ever read, as any capabilities are unique along with their individualistic personalities. Elle and Abelseth are a delight every time they are featured, especially when talking about anything wolfen and their mating practices in particular. The setting is also vividly described using the proper London terminology, thus letting me get a genuine feel for the area. The originality in “Wolf, Interrupted” keeps interest high from beginning to end.

Protector Wolf by Linda O. Johnston

Secrets, mysteries, and an unexpected romance can be found in the eighth Alpha Force story, and the original premise of this miniseries is once again intriguing with clever developments and engaging characters. A wolf shifter being able to change anytime with the aid of a special elixir is a big part of the storyline, and Linda O. Johnston has created a very special hero for the latest book. He is dedicated to his career and has a wonderful personality. The heroine is a spunky individual who is always ready to face a challenge. Together, they work to make certain no harm comes to any wolves, either those in the wild or if one turns out to be a shifter. The many different situations that arose in PROTECTOR WOLF are fascinating and definitely entertaining.

When wild wolves are sighted in the state of Washington near Tacoma, the military unit known as Alpha Force sends a member to look into the matter. The secretive group is made up of shapeshifters, and Lt. Ryan Blaiddinger will be trying to decide if any of the local wolves are like him and can change from human to animal form. Other groups are also taking notice of there now being more wolves in the area, and a woman from an organization that tracks wildlife has come to Fritts Corner in order to research their reappearance.

Since the data Maya Everton has collected could benefit Ryan’s investigation, he makes certain they talk and share specific information. While many local residents like the idea of having wolves in the nearby wilderness, some citizens think they are a menace and should be killed. When Maya goes in search of the wolves on her own, she could have been in big trouble if not for one seemingly protective wolf. Then she and Ryan end up working together to uncover any pertinent facts about the endangered species, but her whole perspective on wolves is altered when she happens to see him shift.

What is actually occurring in PROTECTOR WOLF is kept hidden for much of the book, so I was left guessing along with the main characters. As Maya and Ryan look for concrete evidence about the attacks on humans, I was eager for any new details they might find. Since he must keep his own shapeshifting identity concealed from others, I enjoyed seeing if he would use deception to get any proof. Being able to retain his human reasoning makes the story even more interesting, as Linda O. Johnston told several incidents from his viewpoint while in wolf form.

The past team members of the Alpha Force have all been charming, and I thought Ryan was especially appealing in every way. His interaction with Maya is often amusing at first, as he had to not let her know about his abilities. She is a determined person when it came to safeguarding the wolves, and she sometimes acted without thinking everything through, thus leading to circumstances with unforeseen consequences. Her relationship with Ryan is conceivable, as their love for wildlife is something which they certainly have in common. I hope there are additional books in the always captivating Alpha Force miniseries, because PROTECTOR WOLF makes me want more about these competent heroes.

Taming the Hunter by Michele Hauf

The vivid imagination of Michele Hauf once again took me on an extraordinary journey into her world of the paranormal, where those beings that supposedly do not exist seem so real. In her new series called Decadent Dames, four witches run a brewery in Anoka, Minnesota, an actual place known for how it celebrates Halloween. TAMING THE HUNTER has plenty of humor for which Ms. Hauf is well known, and her characters come across as particularly genuine every time they make an appearance. I loved the supernatural aspects in the story, while the romance is convincing and often touched me on various levels.

Since he is a scientist, Dane Winthur enjoys his present career choice working for a group called the Agency. The organization collects information about possible paranormal activity, and he uses his scientific knowledge to prove whether certain weapons actually have supernatural capabilities associated with them or if they do not. When the hunt for a dagger with a personal connection to him is located, Dane goes to Anoka, Minnesota to learn the truth about the weapon.

There is a delay in inspecting the dagger, so Dane spends his first free night in the city by attending a winter festival. Some of the liquid refreshment is provided by the Decadent Dames brewery, which is owned by four witches. One of them is Eryss Norling, a woman who is hoping for a good future in this lifetime. She has experienced numerous lives in the past, and the same man has been there with her every time. Eryss begins to think Dane could be the one meant for her in this lifetime, yet worries if they could ever get along because of his beliefs. But she feels he is worth the risk to her heart.

One of the things I enjoy about Michele Hauf’s books is the fact that characters from her previous releases are often featured. It is wonderful to revisit some beloved individuals, and their presence still adds to your reading pleasure if they have not been met before. This story contains two werewolves whom I truly adore. Several details pertaining to the witches make them distinctive, yet their behavior had me thinking they could easily be living next door. What is going on in the lives of Dane and Eryss is also very cleverly conceived and executed. Tension associated with what will happen to them gradually builds as the story progresses, and I became extremely anxious about their fate before all was finally revealed. The dagger’s part in their lives is especially intriguing.

TAMING THE HUNTER is believable at all times. Whether something paranormal is going on or the relationship between Dane and Eryss is being explored, I felt as though the situation could really take place.  Ms. Hauf has a way of making her paranormal stories seem like fact instead of fiction, and her first Decadent Dames story is entertainingly realistic. I really liked Dane and Eryss from the moment each was met, and how these two interacted with one another had me wanting them to find happiness together. Both are very appealing, and they are witty yet sensitive to the needs of the other. When a new challenge came into their lives, I got insight into their personalities. I am counting down the days until the next book comes out.

Angel Unleashed by Linda Thomas-Sundstrom

The originality in ANGEL UNLEASHED makes every scene absolutely spellbinding. From the unique characters and their traits to the cleverly conceived plot and its brilliant execution, the story took me on a riveting journey of the unexpected. I was completely engrossed in this paranormal book from the very start, and I only became more fascinated as each new detail was revealed. Linda Thomas-Sundstrom brought an extraordinary world to life when she created the Blood Knights miniseries, and her latest release is the most amazing yet.

An expert at tracking monsters, Rhys de Troyes has competently carried out his specific duty for centuries. As one of the Blood Knights, he uses the skills given to him during a long-ago ceremony to keep humans safe from anyone with supernatural abilities that intends harm. But one night, an unknown plus very powerful being arrives in London, and Rhys is determined to learn its background plus purpose. Shocked to discover the creature is female, he continues his concealed observation, waiting on the right moment to confront her and put a stop to anything devious.

When Avery Arcadia Quinn came to London, she had a particular reason. Running into one of the Blood Knights was certainly not on her agenda, and after coming in contact with Rhys, she knows not disclosing full knowledge of her undertaking along with the reasons behind it to him are imperative or he may interfere. Avery is a grounded angel, because her wings were taken from her to give the Knights some of their immortal capabilities and she wants them back. While she will not stop until her objective is complete, Rhys is just as single-minded about uncovering information related to the secretive being.

There are so many ground-breaking circumstances in ANGEL UNLEASHED, and I found myself in complete wonder time and again. Linda Thomas-Sundstrom has always been able to come up with inventive ideas to describe her characters, and Rhys plus Avery are certainly distinctive individuals. He may be one of the Blood Knights, but he also has his own capabilities and personality. I loved how he is a protector for those whom do not even know he exists, yet he wants no thanks for doing his duty. Rhys may be an immortal with much strength, but his sympathetic heart makes him compassionate to the needs of others. Poor Avery has been through so much, and the way in which she suffered really made me angry. But she can still find humor in unlikely places, and I had a great time watching her and Rhys banter back and forth. The passion they feel for the other is sky-high, leading to explosively heated encounters.

Keeping an ancient religious relic safe is part of the Blood Knights oath, and the author makes their ongoing task very believable. Even if the prior books in the miniseries have not been read, their mission is still clear and the reader does not feel lost at all. There is also a creative concept on how vampires were first formed, and their history is very interesting. One species of supernatural beings that Linda Thomas-Sundstrom does so well is werewolves, and I was delighted when they made appearances throughout the story. I am already eager to see what the author dreams up next.

Rescued by the Wolf by Kristal Hollis

In the second Wahyas of Walker’s Run book, two people who have very little in common feel an intense attraction despite their differences. From personalities to hopes to even species, this couple is not at all alike, yet neither can resist the overpowering lusty magnetism between them. While emotional issues might perhaps tear them apart, their connection cannot be so easily broken. I truly became caught up in every compelling situation because of numerous surprising developments and likable characters.  RESCUED BY THE WOLF is an extremely creative shapeshifter story, and Kristal Hollis brings one imaginative scene after another to life.

Though Rafe Wyatt had once thought having his own family was finally within reach, his hopes were shattered when his pregnant mate died because someone wanted her pelt. Now the wolfan male watches over Walker’s Run where his pack lives in the Appalachian Mountains, as he wants to make certain no more lives are destroyed by a poacher. One night while out covertly patrolling, an accident has Rafe coming in contact with Grace Olsen, a human whose presence affects him way more than he wants. While she would like for them to be pleasant with one another because of mutual friends, he always seems grouchy around her.

Grace was supposed to be staying in the area for only a short time, yet folks in the community have her feeling very welcome and encourage her remain longer, with the exception of Rafe. But after the accident, he will at least talk to her. When they begin to spend lots of time thinking about each other plus actually looking forward to being together, growing desire has them taking their relationship to a more intimate level. Yet several individuals who know Rafe and Grace pose a threat to their possible future happiness.

The Wahyas are wolf shapeshifters unlike any that I have ever read. Kristal Hollis gives her wolfan species their own unique capabilities, and I enjoyed learning more about these fascinating beings as the series continues. Hiding their existence from humans is imperative to staying alive and unharmed, but Rafe secretly wants Grace to know about all his abilities and still accept him. As these two navigate through the many challenges they must face, they discover much about themselves plus each other. Both have lived through emotionally painful incidents, so getting into a new relationship is not on their minds. But when desire is as powerful as what is between Rafe and Grace, it just cannot be ignored. Their sexual encounters definitely made me feel the scorching heat that they generated.

RESCUED BY THE WOLF is often emotional yet also contains a wide variety of sentiments. There are some lighthearted moments all during the story, especially those instances where private thoughts are humorous or clever comebacks are delivered. Grace can talk to anyone, and I enjoyed seeing her charm those around her. Rafe is very protective of those for whom he cares, and his alpha side certainly came out if needed. When some frightening episodes take place, the suspense builds and caused my heart to pound with trepidation. The world created by Ms. Hollis for her Wahyas is original and entertaining, and I hope there are many more stories to come. Also, I really love the cover.

Deliver Us From Evil by Allison Brennan

Whether this is the first time reading DELIVER US FROM EVIL or the story was previously discovered when it was part of the WHAT YOU CAN’T SEE anthology, learning how the Seven Deadly Sins series began will bring much enjoyment. Allison Brennan is known for thrilling mysteries and suspenseful stories, and the paranormal aspects in this enthralling novella add even more intrigue. I have always been fascinated with the supernatural, and often wonder if something unexplained could actually have an unearthly cause. The author makes the numerous strange events in the book come across as profoundly convincing, making me ponder if this fictional account could perhaps turn out to be partly true.  DELIVER US FROM EVIL has bizarre mysteries and terrifying developments.

When the behavior of a dozen priests at a California mission becomes odd, a demonologist hopes to uncover what is causing their problem. But before Anthony Zaccardi can arrive in America and learn the possible reason, the men are all killed. There are no suspects, but he thinks those responsible maybe be demons. When he mentions his suspicions to the sheriff in charge of the case, Skye McPherson feels certain humans are to blame, not some supernatural being.

It looks as though some type of ritual took place at the mission when the men were murdered, and Anthony has a feeling it summoned a demon which needs to be quickly returned to hell or more deaths will occur. Unfortunately, Skye refuses to go along with his theory, so her investigation will only be focused on people. Anthony must have her cooperation in order to stop what will surely happen in the future, but getting Skye to have faith in his beliefs will take much persuasion.

A wide variety of characters are featured in the story, and the personality of each one brings something unique to the scenes in which they appear. From anyone with harmful intentions to a person who is only trying to do the right thing, their conduct let me know their motivations. Anthony is all about doing what he can to keep demons from reaching their goals in the human world, and his biggest battle unexpectedly takes place in a small coastal California town. When he meets Skye, he wants to keep the stubborn woman safe from the hidden danger in her community while also trying to locate a demon. She tries to solve the murders logically, and though there are countless questions, she just cannot accept the explanation Anthony gives as the truth. As these two butt heads and look for answers, their awareness of each other surprisingly grows very strong. How their relationship changes from constantly at odds to something more sexual is influenced by many outside factors, and any passion between them very intense. Both are determined individuals, and neither is willing to give up when they think they are correct about a subject. I feared for each of them on different occasions, as several incidents are dangerous with a great deal of peril.

The idea behind what is happening in the story is unsettlingly scary, and the whole concept captured my interest all the way through. Allison Brennan has written a thought-provoking paranormal story, as DELIVER US FROM EVIL is extremely compelling.

Redemption by Karin Tabke

When good vs. evil, there is often much uncertainty as to who will be the victor when the final confrontation plays out. If something paranormal is also tossed into the mix along with genuine emotions, then situations become even more complicated and this is the reason REDEMPTION captured my interest from the start. In this enchanting story from Karin Tabke, a man with a checkered past is given a final chance to make amends for his previous actions or pay an extremely high price. Having to protect a woman who has no idea that she is crucial in keeping malevolent immortals from gaining power is difficult enough. But since she is his former fiancée along with being unaware of her importance to the circumstances, his task is doubly challenging. REDEMPTION is attention-grabbing because of an abundance of secrets and original supernatural developments.

Though Zachary Garret is a police detective and faces danger on a regular basis, he never thought a car wreck while on duty would cause his death. But instead of ending up in hell which appeared to be his final destination, he is given the opportunity to save not only himself but the whole world. However there is a big problem, as the woman formerly his fiancée is involved and Danica Keller never wants him in her life again.

After hearing that Danica is the only person left who can save humanity but is unaware of her destiny, Zach finally agrees to try and persuade her to do what has been foretold. His choice to deceive her led to their breakup, but being around her again makes him yearn for what they had. Yet he has a responsibility to complete his mission first before letting his personal feelings control him.

Karin Tabke has a very vivid imagination, and REDEMPTION is a paranormal romance filled with fascination and spirited characters. Zach and Danica have been through a lot as a couple, and it would seem there is no way for their relationship to ever be restored as her sentiments were very clear to me on numerous occasions. Danica has been hurt by this man and knows nothing about the truth when it comes to the paranormal and her background. Yet she does not shy away when facts become known. Zach definitely made several prior decisions that he truly regrets, and what he chooses to do with a second chance to make up for at least one of them will determine the future for many.

The battle between those trying to help others and the individuals only thinking of themselves is intense at times, as neither side is willing to give in. I feared for Zach and Danica more than once, as their foes are strong. While not a long story, I still found the book to be entertaining. REDEMPTION was previously released in the anthology, WHAT YOU CAN’T SEE, and is now available as a separate eBook.
