The Witch and the Werewolf by Michele Hauf

Just because someone has supernatural abilities, it does not mean they are completely invincible. Often, these beings can be hurt yet totally recover in a short period. But occasionally, a problem arises which makes someone with these special capabilities vulnerable, and then some tough decisions might have to be made. The main couple in the third Decadent Dames story have to face several very critical matters in their relationship, and whatever choice they make will greatly affect them for the rest of their lives. I so wanted these two likable individuals to find the joy that they deserved. Michele Hauf can always be counted on to create an imaginative yet believable paranormal book, and THE WITCH AND THE WEREWOLF is convincing plus creative.

Since Mireio Malory is a witch, there is a way for her to live for many years way past what is normal. If she can obtain the heart of a vampire, she can cast a spell which would make the wish for a long life come true. One day before leaving work after her shift ended at Decadent Dames, a brewery that she owns with three other witches, a male customer starts a conversation with her. Though he looks and dresses like a big human lumberjack, Mireio gets an animal vibe from him.

With neither werewolf Lars Gunderson or Mireio in a relationship, the two begin seeing each other on a regular basis. Even when he springs a surprise disclosure, she is not put off from dating him. She then learns he is having some major personal issues, ones that could drastically alter the future between them. With the information Mireio uncovers shortly thereafter, her next decision will be the most important one of her life.

The inventive mind of Michele Hauf once again makes her Beautiful Creatures world come alive with realistic beings and an original premise. Though part of a series, this story can certainly be read first without feeling lost. While Mireio has been met previously, insight into her private life was not exposed until her own story. I got to see exactly what caused her to make specific choices, as the dreams she hoped would be fulfilled were revealed. Mireio is a water witch, and Ms. Hauf made her love for this element interesting. Whenever she and Lars are together, they made an engaging pair. Her enthusiasm helped to bring out the lively side of the shy werewolf, and I found him to be refreshingly distinctive when compared to others in this species. Dedicated when a situation calls for it and always thoughtful, Lars is the type of friend or lover who can be counted on at all times, and I so wanted him to experience his life to the fullest. One aspect of his and Mireio’s relationship which they enjoyed was sex, and they definitely had fun during any encounters.

THE WITCH AND THE WEREWOLF is amusing, poignant, and compelling. Humor can be found all through the story, and the unique wit of Michele Hauf made these moments very laughable. There are also events that truly touched my heart, as the author had me feeling the realness of the circumstances. Three of the Decadent Dames owners have told their stories, and I am eager for the fourth witch’s book to come out.

Gray Wolf Mate by Dianna Love

For her first venture in writing a paranormal book, Dianna Love has created a story overflowing with vividly imagined scenes. The League of Gallize Shifters series is definitely original in many areas, and I was totally intrigued during every compelling incident. From characters with unique capabilities to escapades where the situations are not the norm, I was constantly captivated because the details were always fascinating and held my complete attention. GRAY WOLF MATE is a truly ground-breaking paranormal romance. Ms. Love is a writer who can conceive an innovative idea, and then cleverly bring it to life for readers to enjoy.

When the fact that shifters were living amongst humans was revealed, Cole Cavanaugh was stunned like other mortals. Then his college days and relationship with Tess Janver were suddenly over when he shifted because Gray Wolf made its presence known inside his body. Cole is a Gallize shifter, and he now watches over all beings to make sure rules are followed. His actions can also turn deadly in an instant if an event requires it. Though he sometimes has a difficult time controlling the part of him which is wolf, he is determined to be the one commanding his actions.

While Cole is still capable of carrying out his missions, Gray Wolf is becoming very demanding lately plus the mating curse that affects Gallize shifters is starting to bother him, too. With no potential partner, his time left to live is growing ever shorter. When Tess unexpectedly comes back into Cole’s life, her work investigating shifters puts her at odds with him. But after his enemies also become hers, he will do whatever it takes to ensure she is not harmed.

I was certainly excited when I learned Dianna Love was writing in a new genre, and GRAY WOLF MATE never disappoints as the inventiveness of the story only increases with each new development. The Gallize shifters are so distinctive when it comes to beings that can change shapes, and I would like to think there would actually be such a group watching over humans if one day the supernatural proves to be factual. Numerous individuals with specific abilities related to their species left me in awe at times, especially since many of their gifts are ones which I have never before encountered in a book. Also, many of the different groups mentioned are very unusual, whether they are comprised of humans or preternaturals with unusual origins.

From the very beginning, I was taken with how ethical Cole was regardless of what he attempted. Despite abruptly losing what was most important to him, he accepted his destiny to protect others and rose above all the challenges that came his way. Tess likewise had to overcome plenty of hurdles when she decided to use her degree to make certain all beings are treated fairly, as she has a good reason to not like shifters. She and Cole are compassionate individuals, and it really shows in how they react to one another or even strangers. While they may have been apart for years, it only takes one touch for sentiments thought buried to resurface. When truths come out, I feared their already shaky relationship may not last. Several tense moments caused an adrenaline rush, while the scenes depicting profound feelings deeply touched me. What an emotional journey Ms. Love devised for this couple.

De-Witched by Linda Thomas-Sundstrom

A story set in Salem is the perfect way to get in the mood for Halloween. It has good witches who try to keep innocents safe, while another group only wants to carry out evil deeds. When a werewolf comes to town, both he and one particular female witch know very little about each other’s abilities. But it does not take long for these two to become well acquainted, plus discover that there might be something special brewing between them. Linda Thomas-Sundstrom has created a delightfully entertaining story in her Dark vs. Light series, where futures and hearts are on the line in DE-WITCHED. I was totally charmed by this enchanting book.

When werewolf Kade Willis travels to Salem, Massachusetts to preside over a meeting for his Los Angeles law firm, there is trouble with his hotel room reservation. Forced to stay at a local bed and breakfast, all he thinks about is completing his upcoming discussion with clients and returning home. But with his trip taking place right before Samhain, Kade is in for several unexpected developments.

Upon coming in contact with Loren Beck Broom, his innkeeper, Kade feels entranced by the mysterious woman whose nearness puts his werewolf senses on high alert. She also feels her new guest is not quite normal, and it seems a large number of witches with bad intentions are very interested in him. It is a good thing Loren is a formidable witch, as Kade needs plenty of protection.

Paranormal books by Linda Thomas-Sundstrom always keep me enthralled during the countless imaginative scenes. In DE-WITCHED, two beings get to showcase their supernatural capabilities when they must face enemies. Characters conceived by this author are repeatedly unique, as their skills are not the norm, and I enjoyed seeing what Loren and Kade could do when the need arose. I also like a story where surprising incidents occur, and the couple has to experience one unanticipated escapade after another. The longing in their relationship builds quickly, yet doubts have them questioning what their next course of action should be. Kade is a very lovable man, and his charming personality shines through often. I thought Loren was spirited, and her behavior had me liking her all the more. Another captivating story from the talented Linda Thomas-Sundstrom.

The Witch’s Quest by Michele Hauf

The Decadent Dames miniseries is about three witches who run a brewery in Minnesota, and one of them really wants to find a man who will feel affection for her regardless of how she looks or her personality. Using a particular spell seems harmless, but the life of Valor Hearst dramatically changes when she attempts to find love. Since Michele Hauf wrote the story, it is filled with unique details plus very lively characters, and numerous scenes kept me captivated. The Beautiful Creatures world created by this author is always a treat to visit, and I found the developments in THE WITCH’S QUEST to be notable and constantly adventurous.

To appear more appealing to men, witch Valor Hearst entered a forest said to be enchanted so something specific could be located in order to cast a love spell. There is a warning about the area related to witches, and her situation quickly turns grim when the threat becomes a reality. But before her life is ended, a faery named Kelyn Saint-Pierre comes to her aid by giving up something very important to him so Valor can be saved.

Although prior to the incident in the forest, Kelyn would have liked for Valor to be in his life as more than just a possible friend. Now he only wants to avoid her and forget what happened. Yet she is not going to give up on paying him back, whether he wants her to or not. Kelyn finally agrees to a plan which Valor devises, one that will hopefully help him regain what was lost. As the couple travel about in search of certain supernatural items, they discover many truths.

THE WITCH’S QUEST is magically believable. It is always easy to visualize the scenes constructed by Michele Hauf, as her wording so clearly expresses how every aspect looks and is being carried out. What I repeatedly enjoy about Ms. Hauf’s work is the originality found all throughout the book, and her talent once again shines in this fun story. From travels to various parts of the world to scenes taking place back home in Minnesota, I felt like I was seeing the areas through the eyes of the characters. The many escapades that Valor and Kelyn experience are inventive and sometimes dangerous, yet some humorous moments can also be found from time to time. Many past characters from previous books make appearances, and it was great seeing what they were currently doing. But if the books have not been read, enough information is told so a reader is not lost. There are a wide variety of paranormal beings in the story, and each one has its own personal traits and nature as only Michele Hauf can portray.

Valor may seem to be a witch who is always in control yet she is actually vulnerable when it comes to men, but being around Kelyn gives her a big boost as his considerate nature makes her feel more confident. He is such a wonderful hero, giving of himself even when he does not benefit. A witch and faery may not seem like they could ever be in a lasting relationship, and there are several incidents where issues could either draw them together or tear them apart.

Forsaken by Night by Larissa Ione

The MoonBound Clan series is about a group of vampires with unusual traits, and Larissa Ione makes this novella a fascinating installment packed with creative details. From how these beings perceive humans to their unique abilities, I was once again drawn into the lives of numerous vampires that truly intrigue me. Dangerous incidents, honestly sincere emotions, and sarcastic humor cause FORSAKEN BY NIGHT to be continuously enthralling.

Although Lobo is no longer a part of the MoonBound clan because they felt he could not be trusted, the vampire still feels compelled to watch over the remote area where they live in the Pacific Northwest. One night when shots are heard nearby, he goes to investigate and takes the wolf that he rescued years ago with him. When Tehya is seriously wounded by a poacher, Lobo is distraught at the thought of losing his only companion and makes the rash decision to take his beloved pet to the MoonBound clan compound for help. There is only one way to aid Tehya quickly, but his plan could have very high costs.

FORSAKEN BY NIGHT has lots of clever originality in every riveting scene. There is so much happening in the story despite its shorter length, and I was totally caught up in wanting to discover how things would turn out for Lobo and Tehya. I simply adore the supernatural beings Larissa Ione has brought to life in this series, as each one has their own distinctive personality plus ability, and her latest romantic couple is not only spirited but also enchanting. Lobo has faced much hardship since he was born, and I really felt for this vampire who needs to be loved. What occurred to Tehya in the past is very remarkable, and her life has certainly not been typical for someone who was once human and then found her life forever changed.

Many of the conversations throughout the story are packed with dry wit and some great comebacks, and I just had to laugh when I envisioned these skillfully depicted scenes. Larissa Ione always creates charming characters who are so easy to love. A few surprising twists led to revelations that I was not expecting. There are also some interesting events taking place within the vampire clans, and I am hoping for more books in the series which will explore these situations. The story was previously released in the BLOOD RED KISS anthology and is now available on its own.

Charmed by the Wolf by Kristal Hollis

The wolf shifters in the Wahyas of Walker’s Run miniseries have unique traits, and the third book about these fascinating beings has an original storyline. While many of the characters in CHARMED BY THE WOLF are not human, they still have the same emotions and dreams. I liked how Kristal Hollis makes her human heroine just as intriguing as the supernatural hero, and I really wanted a happy ending for the main couple despite their different views. Filled with heartfelt emotions and unanticipated developments, CHARMED BY THE WOLF is an enthralling romantic adventure.

As a sentinel for the Wahyas wolf pack, Tristan Durrance makes certain all those like him stay safe. He also works as a deputy for the local sheriff’s department, and this makes humans his responsibility, too. Since he has no wish to be mated, his focus is only on both jobs and not on looking for a suitable female. When Tristan first comes in contact with Penelope Buchanan, he offers his assistance in fixing her car, and though she is an interesting woman, flirting is all he will ever do with the human.

Since Nel is working at Walker’s Run Resort for the summer, Tristan ends up running into her on many different occasions. During each episode, the connection they felt from the beginning only increases. While Nel might be willing to take a chance and see where things could go with him, Tristan thinks there is no way they could ever have a lasting relationship, especially with him being a wolf shifter.

Family is exceedingly important to pack members, yet Tristan has often felt he was denied any caring concern by his own relatives. Though he kept himself from reacting to their many slights, I could tell how much he was affected and wanted to give him a big hug. The growing feelings between him and Nel are also frequently left unspoken, and the author definitely gave them some troubling issues to overcome. I was drawn into the lives of Tristan and Nel from their first meeting, as these two are genuine and have very animated personalities. Each has suffered through circumstances which influence their current outlook, and while she thinks it is time to change some aspects of her life, he believes there is no reason to have hope when it comes to relationships. Kristal Hollis always creates realistic characters whose true-to-life behavior makes me care about them. I really like how Tristan and Nel brought out the best in each other.

There are some suspenseful incidents in the story, and I feared the worst during these uncertain predicaments. The author definitely makes things dicey for her couple from time to time. Although Nel and Tristan’s relationship does have its share of problems, they do enjoy some rewarding activities together, from thrilling outings to steamy sex. Many characters from the two earlier releases in the miniseries make appearances, and they often play important roles by offering their support. The Wahyas of Walker’s Run miniseries has believable paranormal elements and particularly engaging characters.

Desert Wolf by Linda Thomas-Sundstrom

A highly unusual storyline makes DESERT WOLF constantly fascinating. The unique werewolves created by Linda Thomas-Sundstrom are present, and their distinctive traits once again make them atypical from those usually read. But it is the numerous secrets and mysteries to be solved that really make the story exceptional. I was repeatedly intrigued with the many unanticipated incidents which occur, and when answers were finally given, I was often totally stunned. From start to finish, the story kept me captivated because of all the unknowns plus interesting characters.

After inheriting some land in Arizona from her father, Paxton Hall returns to the place where she lived as a child in the hope of quickly selling it and then returning to Maryland. However, there is one big problem keeping this objective from being simple. It seems there is an abandoned old western town which was once open to the public sitting in the middle of the property she now owns, and it belongs to Grant Wade. So Paxton has come to the hot desert in the hope of getting this stranger’s cooperation.

Her preconceived notions about Grant are far from correct, as it turns out he was once a Texas Ranger and is about her age. When Paxton tries to negotiate with him, he makes it clear there will be no deals made. What she does not know is the man opposing her is a werewolf, and the ghost town of Desperado is where the Lycan Alpha has concealed his pack. A multitude of secrets are being kept by Grant, and deciding what to actually tell Paxton is a huge gamble.

When a human and werewolf meet, there are often some problems to overcome. But the dilemmas Grant and Paxton must face are definitely much bigger than just worrying about different species. While he is aware of much more that is going on in Desperado than her, as she is in the dark at first, there are still some uncertainties for him to also discover. As truths become known, their choices about each new development could be disastrous if not chosen wisely. The confusion Grant and Paxton feel at times left me also speculating about the many possible explanations for what was taking place. Some subtle clues are scattered throughout the story, and I never knew if my deductions were right until every detail was exposed. The superb writing talent of Linda Thomas-Sundstrom certainly shines in DESERT WOLF, a very original paranormal novel.

What could have been an uncomplicated transaction is anything but that for Paxton, and the emotional issues in her life after arriving back home are heartbreaking. I cannot imagine having so many things to decide at once, and the author does not make her path to being happy easy. She has always been spirited, and every bit of her spunk is going to be needed to survive the nonstop predicaments. Grant is a wonderful hero, as he is protective plus compassionate and devoted. As the Alpha, he has countless responsibilities, and I liked how swiftly he moved Paxton up the list. These two go through so many emotional moments, and I enjoyed seeing how they would react to the situation and each other.

Accidental Sire by Molly Harper

If your spirits need boosting, the Half-Moon Hollow series has just the right story to improve your mood. From the very first release, these amusing paranormal stories have caused uncontrollable laughter, and the latest book is once again hilariously entertaining. There are comical incidents along with plenty of snarky retorts, and I could always picture the event happening because of the author’s descriptive writing. Molly Harper never disappoints when it comes to delivering original characters who find themselves in unique situations, and ACCIDENTAL SIRE causes numerous laugh filled moments.

After Meagan Keene meets a nice young man at a college party, she is thrilled when Ben Overby invites her to go on a date with him. Sadly, her happiness is short lived because she is hit with a heavy frisbee being tossed by some other students who are vampires. When it becomes apparent there is no hope she will recover from her injuries, a random vampire volunteers to turn her so she might continue to exist.

Upon waking up, Meagan realizes she is now one of the undead, and her first visitor is Ben checking to make certain she is doing all right. But there seems to be several irregularities when it comes to her new condition, so she is going to be carefully monitored by a vampire belonging to the World Council for the Equal Treatment of the Undead until she is thought to be safe. It certainly appears that Meagan’s potential romance with Ben is over before it even starts.

A visit to Half-Moon Hollow, Kentucky is always a special treat, as many of its residents are one of a kind. Jane and her hunky husband Gabriel are featured all throughout this story, and they made scenes extra enjoyable with their personal brand of humor. The high-spirited Ophelia does her usual thing, while the adorable looking yet actually sort of creepy Georgie shows off. And I certainly cannot forget Dick and his assortment of cleverly phrased t-shirts. If you have ever read this series, it is great catching up with favorite characters, and a first-time meeting of them will make you want to go back and discover what was missed.

What happens to Meagan and Ben is unplanned, and it leads to all kinds of hilarious mishaps and a number of unexpected repercussions. Molly Harper has many situations taking place that are very laughable as a new vampire does not always react as anticipated, especially when several traits are far from normal for their kind. However, there are also some suspenseful instances where outcomes could have serious consequences. The author has come up with a few distinct features for Ben and Meagan, and I found delight in each new aspect. The world Molly Harper has created for her paranormal beings in ACCIDENTAL SIRE is very ground-breaking since circumstances are like no other series. As Meagan comes to terms with living as one of the undead, she and Ben must also work through quite a lot of problems. Young love can be difficult for anyone, but their added supernatural troubles makes forming a relationship doubly hard. I am just glad to have had the opportunity to go on this imaginative journey with two likable individuals and all their diverse friends.

Royal Enchantment by Sharon Ashwood

The Camelot Reborn miniseries is truly intriguing because of how the distinctive characters known from legend are brought to life in order to keep the human population safe. The group of knights known for their fighting skills plus bravery will put their lives on the line for anyone, but in this story, someone very dear to King Arthur might perhaps be in need of his expertise. When Guinevere comes back into his life, they both must confront the emotional issues which affected their relationship in the past, as these troubling matters could keep them from moving forward in the present. I became totally caught up in the many happenings this couple had to face, from problems caused by the fae to those linked in how they perceived the other. ROYAL ENCHANTMENT is noteworthy because Sharon Ashwood has made every moment believable.

A long time ago when King Arthur aligned himself and his knights with the fae to keep humans from harm, one upcoming battle was disastrous to any being who was a Faery and they vowed revenge. Merlin then enchanted those who sat around the Round Table so they would sleep until they were once again needed to protect mortals. The time has come for Arthur and his loyal knights to battle the fae, and they are disguised as employees at a medieval theme park in present day Washington state. As the courageous king prepares to fight, he thinks back to when Guinevere was by his side.

What Arthur did not know is that Merlin also put his queen under the same spell, and now she has been awoken. But Gwen is no longer satisfied to keep a low profile and not speak her thoughts, because before she was always left in the dark when any plans were made. As the peril escalates for anyone living in the modern world, Arthur and Guinevere find their relationship having its own personal difficulties.

Arthur and his knights have had to adapt themselves to a world unlike the one they left, and it is always fun to see these men using phones and riding in cars instead of traveling on a horse. Sharon Ashwood has reasonable explanations for every situation that arises, and often the crafty Merlin is at the center of any solution. I was frequently in awe of how the author made so many factors connected to the past seem as though they could take place in our current world, and I especially enjoyed seeing what occurred when a dragon or some other mythical creature appeared. Exceedingly colorful descriptions make ROYAL ENCHANTMENT constantly fascinating, and each new adventure keeps the interest high.

Since Gwen is willing to clash with Arthur over her lack of independence, he quickly discovers his wife is not as meek as when they first married. What he sees as being protective has her feeling stifled, and I really had a great time watching them try to find a way to actually be happy together. Balancing his duties as king with those responsibilities a wife expects of her husband was not at all easy for Arthur, and though there is much passion between them, trust will also play a big part in what ultimately happens. I have always thought the myth about King Arthur and Guinevere was very interesting, and Sharon Ashwood gives an imaginative perspective on this fable.

Urban Wolf by Linda Thomas-Sundstrom and Jillian Stone

URBAN WOLF captures the imagination with innovative creativity and engaging characters. Linda Thomas-Sundstrom and Jillian Stone always manage to write stories that grab your full attention, and their compelling novellas are definitely entertaining. Taking place in Los Angeles and London, two men who appear as regular humans are in actuality hiding their Were side to keep people from knowing the truth. When they find themselves in situations where a woman plays a huge part and could affect the outcome, the lives of each couple becomes entangled because of unanticipated developments. As threats continue to mount, so does their desire for one another. I was totally caught up in the numerous surprising incidents that arise, as these episodes make for constant fascination.

“Wolf in the City” by Linda Thomas-Sundstrom

Since the ill-fated night that forever changed Jared James, his evenings are often spent patrolling the streets of Los Angeles where inconceivable events in fact happen. After becoming a werewolf, he now wants justice against the being which turned him into something most humans do not think exists. One night, another creature is prowling the area, and Jared learns vampires are also very real. Discovering someone else who is no longer an ordinary mortal causes him much excitement, but he wonders if the female vampire named Kit will keep him from seeking the one that created him.

When it comes to werewolves, Linda Thomas-Sundstrom can always masterfully write an original story for these intriguing creatures, and this novella showcases her creative mind. “Wolf in the City” is filled with unique circumstances and two distinctive characters, where emotions run high and danger escalates. Jared and Kit may be from different paranormal species, but their craving for normalcy draws them together, resulting in lots of earnest conversations and growing desire. What a wonderful couple they make because of the author’s inventiveness, and I really hope there are more stories set in the same location. I can never get enough of Linda Thomas-Sundstrom’s tempting werewolf heroes!

“Wolf, Interrupted” by Jillian Stone

After someone is killed during a vicious attack in London’s underground train station, Abelseth Durant is the homicide detective sent to speak with an eyewitness named Elle Hathaway. He immediately recognizes her wolfen nature, as he has the same background. Though once part of a pack, he is now a lone wolf yet cannot keep from being attracted to the enticing female. When Elle is unexpectedly snatched by a wolf pack with a very bad reputation, Abelseth will use whatever measures he must to get her back.

A most colorful world has been constructed for the werewolves that Jillian Stone has envisioned living in London. They are dissimilar from any werewolves I have ever read, as any capabilities are unique along with their individualistic personalities. Elle and Abelseth are a delight every time they are featured, especially when talking about anything wolfen and their mating practices in particular. The setting is also vividly described using the proper London terminology, thus letting me get a genuine feel for the area. The originality in “Wolf, Interrupted” keeps interest high from beginning to end.
