Angel Unleashed by Linda Thomas-Sundstrom

The originality in ANGEL UNLEASHED makes every scene absolutely spellbinding. From the unique characters and their traits to the cleverly conceived plot and its brilliant execution, the story took me on a riveting journey of the unexpected. I was completely engrossed in this paranormal book from the very start, and I only became more fascinated as each new detail was revealed. Linda Thomas-Sundstrom brought an extraordinary world to life when she created the Blood Knights miniseries, and her latest release is the most amazing yet.

An expert at tracking monsters, Rhys de Troyes has competently carried out his specific duty for centuries. As one of the Blood Knights, he uses the skills given to him during a long-ago ceremony to keep humans safe from anyone with supernatural abilities that intends harm. But one night, an unknown plus very powerful being arrives in London, and Rhys is determined to learn its background plus purpose. Shocked to discover the creature is female, he continues his concealed observation, waiting on the right moment to confront her and put a stop to anything devious.

When Avery Arcadia Quinn came to London, she had a particular reason. Running into one of the Blood Knights was certainly not on her agenda, and after coming in contact with Rhys, she knows not disclosing full knowledge of her undertaking along with the reasons behind it to him are imperative or he may interfere. Avery is a grounded angel, because her wings were taken from her to give the Knights some of their immortal capabilities and she wants them back. While she will not stop until her objective is complete, Rhys is just as single-minded about uncovering information related to the secretive being.

There are so many ground-breaking circumstances in ANGEL UNLEASHED, and I found myself in complete wonder time and again. Linda Thomas-Sundstrom has always been able to come up with inventive ideas to describe her characters, and Rhys plus Avery are certainly distinctive individuals. He may be one of the Blood Knights, but he also has his own capabilities and personality. I loved how he is a protector for those whom do not even know he exists, yet he wants no thanks for doing his duty. Rhys may be an immortal with much strength, but his sympathetic heart makes him compassionate to the needs of others. Poor Avery has been through so much, and the way in which she suffered really made me angry. But she can still find humor in unlikely places, and I had a great time watching her and Rhys banter back and forth. The passion they feel for the other is sky-high, leading to explosively heated encounters.

Keeping an ancient religious relic safe is part of the Blood Knights oath, and the author makes their ongoing task very believable. Even if the prior books in the miniseries have not been read, their mission is still clear and the reader does not feel lost at all. There is also a creative concept on how vampires were first formed, and their history is very interesting. One species of supernatural beings that Linda Thomas-Sundstrom does so well is werewolves, and I was delighted when they made appearances throughout the story. I am already eager to see what the author dreams up next.

Rescued by the Wolf by Kristal Hollis

In the second Wahyas of Walker’s Run book, two people who have very little in common feel an intense attraction despite their differences. From personalities to hopes to even species, this couple is not at all alike, yet neither can resist the overpowering lusty magnetism between them. While emotional issues might perhaps tear them apart, their connection cannot be so easily broken. I truly became caught up in every compelling situation because of numerous surprising developments and likable characters.  RESCUED BY THE WOLF is an extremely creative shapeshifter story, and Kristal Hollis brings one imaginative scene after another to life.

Though Rafe Wyatt had once thought having his own family was finally within reach, his hopes were shattered when his pregnant mate died because someone wanted her pelt. Now the wolfan male watches over Walker’s Run where his pack lives in the Appalachian Mountains, as he wants to make certain no more lives are destroyed by a poacher. One night while out covertly patrolling, an accident has Rafe coming in contact with Grace Olsen, a human whose presence affects him way more than he wants. While she would like for them to be pleasant with one another because of mutual friends, he always seems grouchy around her.

Grace was supposed to be staying in the area for only a short time, yet folks in the community have her feeling very welcome and encourage her remain longer, with the exception of Rafe. But after the accident, he will at least talk to her. When they begin to spend lots of time thinking about each other plus actually looking forward to being together, growing desire has them taking their relationship to a more intimate level. Yet several individuals who know Rafe and Grace pose a threat to their possible future happiness.

The Wahyas are wolf shapeshifters unlike any that I have ever read. Kristal Hollis gives her wolfan species their own unique capabilities, and I enjoyed learning more about these fascinating beings as the series continues. Hiding their existence from humans is imperative to staying alive and unharmed, but Rafe secretly wants Grace to know about all his abilities and still accept him. As these two navigate through the many challenges they must face, they discover much about themselves plus each other. Both have lived through emotionally painful incidents, so getting into a new relationship is not on their minds. But when desire is as powerful as what is between Rafe and Grace, it just cannot be ignored. Their sexual encounters definitely made me feel the scorching heat that they generated.

RESCUED BY THE WOLF is often emotional yet also contains a wide variety of sentiments. There are some lighthearted moments all during the story, especially those instances where private thoughts are humorous or clever comebacks are delivered. Grace can talk to anyone, and I enjoyed seeing her charm those around her. Rafe is very protective of those for whom he cares, and his alpha side certainly came out if needed. When some frightening episodes take place, the suspense builds and caused my heart to pound with trepidation. The world created by Ms. Hollis for her Wahyas is original and entertaining, and I hope there are many more stories to come. Also, I really love the cover.

Deliver Us From Evil by Allison Brennan

Whether this is the first time reading DELIVER US FROM EVIL or the story was previously discovered when it was part of the WHAT YOU CAN’T SEE anthology, learning how the Seven Deadly Sins series began will bring much enjoyment. Allison Brennan is known for thrilling mysteries and suspenseful stories, and the paranormal aspects in this enthralling novella add even more intrigue. I have always been fascinated with the supernatural, and often wonder if something unexplained could actually have an unearthly cause. The author makes the numerous strange events in the book come across as profoundly convincing, making me ponder if this fictional account could perhaps turn out to be partly true.  DELIVER US FROM EVIL has bizarre mysteries and terrifying developments.

When the behavior of a dozen priests at a California mission becomes odd, a demonologist hopes to uncover what is causing their problem. But before Anthony Zaccardi can arrive in America and learn the possible reason, the men are all killed. There are no suspects, but he thinks those responsible maybe be demons. When he mentions his suspicions to the sheriff in charge of the case, Skye McPherson feels certain humans are to blame, not some supernatural being.

It looks as though some type of ritual took place at the mission when the men were murdered, and Anthony has a feeling it summoned a demon which needs to be quickly returned to hell or more deaths will occur. Unfortunately, Skye refuses to go along with his theory, so her investigation will only be focused on people. Anthony must have her cooperation in order to stop what will surely happen in the future, but getting Skye to have faith in his beliefs will take much persuasion.

A wide variety of characters are featured in the story, and the personality of each one brings something unique to the scenes in which they appear. From anyone with harmful intentions to a person who is only trying to do the right thing, their conduct let me know their motivations. Anthony is all about doing what he can to keep demons from reaching their goals in the human world, and his biggest battle unexpectedly takes place in a small coastal California town. When he meets Skye, he wants to keep the stubborn woman safe from the hidden danger in her community while also trying to locate a demon. She tries to solve the murders logically, and though there are countless questions, she just cannot accept the explanation Anthony gives as the truth. As these two butt heads and look for answers, their awareness of each other surprisingly grows very strong. How their relationship changes from constantly at odds to something more sexual is influenced by many outside factors, and any passion between them very intense. Both are determined individuals, and neither is willing to give up when they think they are correct about a subject. I feared for each of them on different occasions, as several incidents are dangerous with a great deal of peril.

The idea behind what is happening in the story is unsettlingly scary, and the whole concept captured my interest all the way through. Allison Brennan has written a thought-provoking paranormal story, as DELIVER US FROM EVIL is extremely compelling.

Redemption by Karin Tabke

When good vs. evil, there is often much uncertainty as to who will be the victor when the final confrontation plays out. If something paranormal is also tossed into the mix along with genuine emotions, then situations become even more complicated and this is the reason REDEMPTION captured my interest from the start. In this enchanting story from Karin Tabke, a man with a checkered past is given a final chance to make amends for his previous actions or pay an extremely high price. Having to protect a woman who has no idea that she is crucial in keeping malevolent immortals from gaining power is difficult enough. But since she is his former fiancée along with being unaware of her importance to the circumstances, his task is doubly challenging. REDEMPTION is attention-grabbing because of an abundance of secrets and original supernatural developments.

Though Zachary Garret is a police detective and faces danger on a regular basis, he never thought a car wreck while on duty would cause his death. But instead of ending up in hell which appeared to be his final destination, he is given the opportunity to save not only himself but the whole world. However there is a big problem, as the woman formerly his fiancée is involved and Danica Keller never wants him in her life again.

After hearing that Danica is the only person left who can save humanity but is unaware of her destiny, Zach finally agrees to try and persuade her to do what has been foretold. His choice to deceive her led to their breakup, but being around her again makes him yearn for what they had. Yet he has a responsibility to complete his mission first before letting his personal feelings control him.

Karin Tabke has a very vivid imagination, and REDEMPTION is a paranormal romance filled with fascination and spirited characters. Zach and Danica have been through a lot as a couple, and it would seem there is no way for their relationship to ever be restored as her sentiments were very clear to me on numerous occasions. Danica has been hurt by this man and knows nothing about the truth when it comes to the paranormal and her background. Yet she does not shy away when facts become known. Zach definitely made several prior decisions that he truly regrets, and what he chooses to do with a second chance to make up for at least one of them will determine the future for many.

The battle between those trying to help others and the individuals only thinking of themselves is intense at times, as neither side is willing to give in. I feared for Zach and Danica more than once, as their foes are strong. While not a long story, I still found the book to be entertaining. REDEMPTION was previously released in the anthology, WHAT YOU CAN’T SEE, and is now available as a separate eBook.

A Venetian Vampire by Michele Hauf

51favthm71l-_sx314_bo1204203200_An adventure starts immediately in the latest paranormal book from Michele Hauf, and the drama along with lots of unexpected humor only increases as the story unfolds. I could tell from the very beginning that the main characters were uniquely delightful, and I came to deeply care about the charming Dante D’Arcangelo plus likable Kyler Cole. No one does unique vampires better than Ms. Hauf, and this couple certainly captured my interest. Besides plenty of escapades involving a Fabergé egg and a dangerous spell, there are numerous scenes where romance is the focal point. I always get excited when this author releases a book, and A VENETIAN VAMPIRE does not disappoint.

When Dante D’Arcangelo entered the Venetian auction house, his intentions were to steal a Fabergé Imperial egg. He knows if the valuable piece does not become his, the spell it possesses could doom countless vampires including him. While working out his plan as he looks over the area where the egg is being kept until it is sold, Dante sees a woman who also appears to be casing the place for a possible theft. He fully intends for there to be only one thief that successfully ends up with the precious item, and it will not be the fascinating stranger.

Although she took a huge chance in snatching the Fabergé egg, the payoff is too good for Kyler Cole to pass up. When she seems to casually meet Dante a little later, the vampiress has no idea that he is on to her secret agenda. Seducing her in order to get closer is easy for the charismatic vampire, but obtaining the object is much trickier. Especially when a third individual is equally determined to own the coveted prize.

I have always enjoyed the distinctive heroes created by Michele Hauf, and Dante’s personality definitely puts him on my all-time favorite list. He is a tempting man who is honest and compassionate. The way in which he interacts with Kyler had me smiling often, as he is a smooth talker but also shows concern when needed. She may be a vampire now, but many of her reactions are still that of a human woman. Quite a few of their conversations are filled with wit, and I could not help but chuckle at their candid responses. But much of the relationship between Dante and Kyler is often emotional, as doubts lead to confusion over how each are currently feeling. Neither is looking for anything lasting, and they do have one disagreement after another. Yet these disputes do not keep some very heated sexual encounters from taking place.

The reason for Dante and Kyler ever meeting is intriguing, as the secretive details concocted by Michele Hauf about a Fabergé egg are very attention-grabbing. There are several paranormal aspects connected to the mystery surrounding the piece, and I was captivated by the clever imaginings of the author. Ms. Hauf is known for being particularly original when it comes to her characters and their personal stories, and A VENETIAN VAMPIRE is truly innovative. From vampire and werewolf traits to possible reasons for actual events in history, I wanted to believe each fact was true. A few characters from past books are mentioned, and one shadowy individual plays a big part in the story. I really hope King is featured again, and perhaps gets his own future book.

Bayou Wolf by Debbie Herbert

51zqaym4yll-_sy346_All three connected Bayou Magic stories have been truly fascinating, and BAYOU WOLF is certainly a rewarding read. With its werewolf hero and spunky heroine, I was intrigued from the start of the book and only became more interested with every new detail. A werewolf with good intentions has long been a favorite supernatural being, and Payton Rodgers was trying to do what was right despite having obstacles thrown his way again and again. Tallulah Silver is determined to prove her worth although she is female, and I really enjoyed seeing her shine during tricky predicaments. Debbie Herbert always manages to create enthralling storylines for her paranormal books, and BAYOU WOLF never disappoints.

When the only man that Tallulah Silver had deeply loved was killed by an evil spirit, it nearly broke her heart. Now she devotes much of her life to being a shadow hunter in order to make certain no other dark spirits harm anyone in Bayou La Siryna, Alabama. She is proud of her Choctaw heritage, and protecting others is her focus at this time. One night while paying respect to her deceased boyfriend where he died, Tallulah encounters a strange wolf-like beast, one not easily frightened away. She just hopes this creature is not some new being come to torment those who live in the bayou.

The first meeting wolf shifter Payton Rodgers had with Tallulah was a confrontation when she was protesting the cutting down of trees for which his pack was given a contract. Then it seems as though their paths are constantly crossing for various reasons. When someone in the area is killed, Tallulah thinks Payton and the men with whom he works know something about the incident. There are some secrets that he is hiding, but divulging them will threaten his pack which he refuses to do and she is not yet ready to let another man get close to her anyway.

A clever blending of romance with the paranormal makes BAYOU WOLF entertaining on every page. I have always found Debbie Herbert to have an extremely vivid imagination, and her concept for the Bayou Magic miniseries is definitely not your ordinary supernatural tale. The sneaky dark spirits in the stories are back once again, but this time, the shadow hunters must also contend with some problems that deal with werewolves. This pack of shifters has their own unique abilities, and I liked discovering what particular traits the author would give her supernatural creatures. It was great catching up with the characters from the other two books in the miniseries, too. The Alabama setting comes alive with colorful descriptions that lead to realistic images.

I was captivated by all the secrets being kept by Tallulah and Payton, and many of them caused me to be nervous about what would happen when these truths were exposed. I was especially worried over how each would react when certain hidden facts become known, as she could speak without thinking sometimes because of her quick temper. This caused several of their scenes to be very exciting. Ms. Herbert made a relationship between these two rather difficult because of the numerous differences that would need some compromising before any bond could ever last. There were some emotional moments along with instances where passionate desire was controlling their responses, but regardless of the sentiment expressed, every situation was believable. I cannot wait to see what Debbie Herbert writes next.

Charmed by the Salem Witch by Debbie Herbert

9781539710233_p0_v1_s192x300The newest installment in the Appalachian Magic series is fascinating and even contains some unexpected danger. Debbie Herbert packs lot of emotion into her new adult story, where two people in college learn what it means to put their trust in another person. Add in some intriguing supernatural facts, and the book certainly kept my interest during every compelling scene. Ms. Herbert is an author whose stories always feature original plots, and CHARMED BY THE SALEM WITCH is definitely creative.

Back home in Alabama, the future of Tanner Adams looked bright. He did well in sports during high school plus college, but an injury changed his goals. Now he is doing technical assignments at the Women’s College of Salem, yet he feels as though his life is going nowhere. Then he meets Sarah Welch who is a student at the Massachusetts college. Although they know nothing about each other, it does not take long for them to realize they share several things in common related to witchcraft.

While Sarah does enjoy attending the school in Salem, she is disappointed to not fit in and lacks any friends, just like during her earlier years. But that changes when Tanner makes it a point to talk with her, and a group of girls even say they have formed a coven and want her to become a member. While her relationship with the IT employee is moving forward, the young women in the group are beginning to seem more like enemies. Tanner is suspicious of the motives of these girls, and he may have to call on his own supernatural abilities to protect Sarah.

It has been a long time since I was in college, but I do remember wanting to feel as though I was a part of certain groups and not always be left out. Sarah has long wished to have some friends with whom she could talk and share ideas. But college looks like it will also be lonely for her once again. I felt for her, and was so happy when Tanner made the effort to speak with her because I could tell he was genuinely interested in learning about her. Their budding relationship progresses as I liked, where two young people are coming to understand the views and hopes of each other. Their desire for one another also plays a part in how they feel, and Ms. Herbert makes these moments believable and lovingly tender.

In the Appalachian Magic series, young adults are determining what it takes to make them happy while still exploring any supernatural capabilities they might possess. It is a time of discovery for them in numerous ways, and I really liked how Ms. Herbert interweaves romance with the paranormal to create a captivating story. The reactions of the characters are realistic, while any details about the events are conceivable. I truly hope there are future books in the series. CHARMED BY THE SALEM WITCH is constantly enchanting.

A Hunter Under the Mistletoe: All Is Bright\Heat of a Helios by Addison Fox and Karen Whiddon

51mqgkfjxjlWith the Las Vegas setting and an inventive storyline involving Helios from Green myths, A HUNTER UNDER THE MISTLETOE is constantly enchanting. Addison Fox and Karen Whiddon have written stories filled with uniqueness and imaginable characters, and I enjoyed seeing how someone with very unusual supernatural abilities would react during certain situations. The two Stavros brothers make outstanding heroes, as deep concern for others demonstrates they are compassionate, while their responses to the new women in their lives proves tender regard and fiery passion are also part of their natures. Though the heroines are rather shy and usually keep to themselves, being around a man who cares about them brings out the best in their behavior. Both stories complement each other, as facts and timelines are accurate. Christmas festivities add to the charm of the stories, while many aspects of Las Vegas are highlighted throughout the novellas. I hope there will be future visits with the Helios. A HUNTER UNDER THE MISTLETOE captures the imagination with cleverness.

“All Is Bright” by Addison Fox

As the horticulturist for the Archangel Casino in Las Vegas, it is the duty of Evangeline Kennedy to make certain the plants located on the site look fabulous at all times. While working late one night, she comes upon a sight that cannot be rationalized and is determined to get a valid explanation about the incident. Rafael Stavros runs the casino along with his brother, and they are both phoenixes which are known as Helios. What Evangeline saw was his Rejuvenation, and the truth about this event must be kept concealed from humans. Since Rafe is worried about her trying to discover what actually happened, he plans to get much closer to her, something that will not be a hardship.

Original and intriguing, “All Is Bright” interweaves the Christmas season with lots of fascinating incidents. Addison Fox brings the interesting world of the Helios to life with believability and engaging characters. Rafe greatly cares for his family, and he is shocked to find a human woman could be added to his list. Though he and Evangeline are vastly different, and she does not like secrets, the sexual pull between them is very potent and hard to ignore. What is learned about the Helios and their enemy, Chaos, is thought-provoking with its ties to Greek mythology, and I was definitely involved in how things would play out.

“Heat of a Helios” by Karen Whiddon

Even though Meghan Frost is a well-known singing sensation, she hopes to have a relaxing time in Las Vegas before her upcoming shows begin at the Archangel Casino. While her room is absolutely perfect and so far no one recognizes her, being alone over the Christmas holiday is really disheartening. When she spends some time doing enjoyable activities with Gabriel Stavros, one of the casino’s co-owners, her vacation becomes much more exciting. But Meghan has no clue her new boss is a Helios, which is the supernatural being hunted by her family. As she and Gabe spend time together, danger is drawing ever nearer.

The Stavros brothers know how to show someone a good time, and Gabe goes all out to make Meghan welcome at his establishment. But in the process of being a good host, he finds his feelings are becoming affected by the supposed diva. Karen Whiddon has created a truly compelling storyline for her couple, where emotions quickly become entangled. I found the interactions between Meghan and Gabe to be realistic, especially when they discussed matters that were important to them. “Heat of a Helios” delivers a captivating paranormal story packed with romance.

Blood Red Kiss by Kresley Cole, Larissa Ione and Gena Showalter

51lro2-rrolSnarky humor, heartfelt emotions and even some dangerous escapades make BLOOD RED KISS constantly engaging. When I saw three of my all-time favorite authors had stories being released in one book, I was definitely excited that they were in series I devotedly follow. Since it is the tenth anniversary of the Immortals After Dark series, plenty of extra facts are included to give me insight into how Kresley Cole has made these stories so engrossing. The MoonBound Clan series is about a group of vampires with unusual traits, and Larissa Ione makes this novella an enthralling installment packed with innovative details. For the latest Otherworld Assassins story, numerous paranormal imaginings not found anywhere else are dreamed up by Gena Showalter with often surprising results. Even better, each story in the book stands alone.

“The Warlord Wants Forever” by Kresley Cole – https://kresleycole.com/

The only reason Nikolai Wroth would now be interested in a woman is because she was actually his Bride, the lone female who could make him breathe once more plus cause his heart to beat. When he comes in contact with Myst the Coveted after a fierce battle, he demands information about the various non-humans of the Lore, but she refuses to divulge anything. But before he can force her to talk, Nikolai is stunned to realize that Myst is his Bride. While she does not want to be a part of his life, he will not let her refusal keep him from seizing what is his.

Whether this is the first time reading the start of the Immortals After Dark series or a revisit with some favorite characters, there will be a sense of pleasure when the story is completed. I have loved the series since this book came out, and I am always entertained by the unique individuals featured in each book. Kresley Cole makes Nikolai and Myst’s very personal story extremely sensual, yet it is also compelling with particularly genuine emotions. When a vampire finds himself surprisingly connected to an imprisoned Valkyrie, the lives of these two enemies become complicated from that moment on. She hates blood drinkers for past offenses against her kind, but the human turned vampire is not like the many others whom she has killed. But she must remain loyal to those that she calls a sister. “The Warlord Wants Forever” is often amusing and definitely fascinating with nonstop creativity.

“Forsaken by Night” by Larissa Ione – http://larissaione.com/blog/

Though Lobo previously worked for the MoonBound clan in security, an incident forced him to leave. Now the vampire lives alone with only a wolf named Tehya as his constant companion, and they watch over a remote area in the state of Washington. When his beloved pet is severely hurt, Lobo knows of only one way to possibly save her life. His scheme to get medical assistance from those at the MoonBound compound might save Tehya, but the cost to both of them could be exceedingly harsh.

Much imagination goes into each MoonBound Clan story, and “Forsaken by Night” has lots of clever originality in every riveting scene. I simply adore the supernatural beings Larissa Ione has brought to life in this series, as each one has their own distinctive personality and ability. Also, the origin of vampires is particularly captivating. Lobo has faced much hardship since he was born, and I really felt for this vampire who needs someone to love. The explanation given for all that Tehya has lived through is interesting, and the ideas behind what happened are certainly not the typical background of someone who is immortal. What is taking place within the vampire clans is truly intriguing, and I want the next book now.

“Dark Swan” by Gena Showalter – http://members.genashowalter.com/

There was always a powerful bond between Lilica Swan and her sisters when they were young, and their connection is just as strong as adults. Worry about one sibling has led the human/ otherworlder hybrid to find Dallas Gutierrez, an agent with the Alien Investigation and Removal organization, as she thinks he might have needed information. There is a very strong physical pull between the couple, and though they do have one common goal, the ending they want is much different. But as private secrets are revealed, Dallas and Lilica come to comprehend they are much more alike than they first thought.

An Otherworld Assassins story contains facts that are highly amazing when it relates to alien beings, and the novella about Dallas is certainly remarkable at times. When it comes to beings from a place outside our world, Gena Showalter is a master at creating the extraordinary. Past characters of the series get to interact with several new individuals, and any conversations are once again overflowing with sarcastic remarks that cause many laughs. Dallas and Lilica are delightful as a couple, and their continuously being at odds added to my enjoyment. With sky-high sexual tension and much hilarity, “Dark Swan” keeps the reading satisfaction high.

Bayou Shadow Protector by Debbie Herbert

51b3+v8gCoLAs more is revealed about the unique characters featured in the Bayou Magic miniseries, I become further captivated by their abilities plus behavior. Anyone who is a shadow hunter faces danger on a regular basis, where these brave persons put the safely of others before their own time and again. The heroine in the second book may be very different from this group that fights spirits with evil intentions, but she is also courageous and does not easily back down when threatened. Cruel beings definitely hide in the Alabama bayou, and two individuals may be all that stands in the way of them becoming powerful and causing much havoc. Debbie Herbert imaginatively brings her Bayou Magic miniseries to life, and BAYOU SHADOW PROTECTOR is original and extremely emotional.

Since the Fae know malicious spirits are threatening their survival, April Meadows has been sent to the human world in order to get help from Native American shadow hunters. Chulah Rivers is one of the warriors that watches over Bayou La Siryna, and finding a lone woman in the woods near his home is very unusual yet not alarming. But April has a specific mission to complete along with a personal task of her own, and she is determined to get Chulah’s cooperation as a shadow hunter while also gaining his trust. Perhaps using feminine wiles will work for her, as she does not want to use any Fae abilities.

To get the needed information to Chulah about the dangerous spirits that must be eliminated, April will get close to the man she has long admired. She already knows much about him, as she has watched this particular male for years. Though the Fae just want to use the gifted hunter so their enemy is finally gone, she dreams of him actually caring for her as she does him. Although April had thought her plan would be easy, getting Chulah to agree will take more cunning endeavors than she first thought.

When Debbie Herbert comes up with a concept for her paranormal books, the premise is always original and certainly entertaining. The Bayou Magic miniseries cleverly blends Native American folklore into a present-day problem, resulting in a story filled with innovative ideas and plenty of distinct characters. Chulah is a loner, and his preference to take care of things himself may have made him tougher but has also taken away his ability to feel some emotions. A past event has caused much guilt over the years, and not being able to fully trust April just adds to his personal troubles. She does make some decisions based on what she secretly saw, but knowledge does not always lead to success. There were situations where I ached for her as she so desperately wanted Chulah to like her. Though there is a real connection between the couple, sometimes even an electrifying one, a relationship needs more than desire so they experience lots of challenges.

The peril in the story is very real and goes along with the mythology. Debbie Herbert made me want to believe in the carefully played out incidents depicted with colorful details. I fretted over what choices either Chulah or April would eventually choose, as many lives could be affected if they decided incorrectly. Though the first book in the miniseries would not have to be read first, what caused the current troubles in the Alabama bayou would be known beforehand. BAYOU SHADOW PROTECTOR is inventively creative.
